8th Annual Chocolate Lovers’ Festival in Eureka Springs Arkansas!

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 11, 2012, for chocolate gorging.

There is chocolate sampling all day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults ($6 for children) and worth every penny, because you get to take a box around with you to all the display tables, chow down on samples AND fill up the box for wonderful chocolate to take home. You will see some wonderful displays (great for ideas for weddings and parties) and one of my favorite things in the whole wide-world:  chocolate fountains.

The Chocolate Lovers’ Festival is always planned every year to coincide with Valentine’s Weekend, so what could be more perfect? This is a nationally acclaimed festival, which has been featured in the national media, including Southern Living magazine. On top of that, it has been selected as the second-best attraction for Valentine’s Day in the state of Arkansas!

A complete world of chocolate appreciation will be featured at the 8th Annual Chocolate Lovers’ Festival including cakes, cookies, ice cream, multiple dipping fountains, beverages and more. Chocolate novelty items and body products will be on hand as well.

We will be happy to host you here at the Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast in Eureka Springs Arkansas – and we will help you eat the chocolate, too, if you just end up with way too much (is there such a thing?) Weather so far this winter has been gorgeous, so come on up to Eureka! Sophie’s waiting in the window!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Mardi Gras in Eureka Springs, 2012!

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Thanks to the “Krewe of Krazo” (that’s “Ozark” spelled backwards), there is truly a New Orleans-style Mardi Gras setting here in the beautiful Ozarks within the downtown area of Eureka Springs, AR. This event, in its seventh year, has grown phenomenally and is now deeply rooted in the Victorian town with our up and down and curly-Q streets. So if you’re looking for some good fun in the doldrums of wintertime – and always think Eureka is too quiet during the winter – check out the Mardi Gras schedule below:

Sunday, January 8: King’s Day Kickoff
Saturday, January 28: Christening the Floats
Saturday, February 11: Taste of N’Awlins
Thursday, February 16: Hookers & Jokers Ball
Friday, February 17: Coronation Ball
Saturday, February 18: Downtown Parade
Saturday, February 18: Costume Contests
Saturday, February 18: Beaux Art Ball

Most everything is within walking distance of us here at the Bridgeford House, so it won’t matter if you imbibe a little bit. So – Laissez les bon temps Rouler! (Let the good times roll!)

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

New Year’s in Eureka Springs, AR

Sunday, December 11th, 2011

Believe it or not, 2012 is almost here! 2011′s been tough on a lot of folks, so 2012 needs to come in with a lot of optimism and good cheer. Come spend it with us at the Bridgeford House, our Arkansas bed and breakfast!

Celebrate New Year's in Eureka Springs!

We will be here to take care of you! On Saturday, New Year’s Eve, we’ll have hot hors d’oeuvres and wine available from 5 p.m to 8 p.m., while visiting with the innkeepers and other guests. We’ll provide hats and noise-makers for you to take to parties downtown. Breakfast Sunday morning will be set for 9:30, rather than 9:00, with Mimosas for those folks still celebrating the arrival of 2012. And we’ll extend checkout on Sunday until 12:00, rather than 11:00, so your first day of the new year won’t have to be a rush! What more could you ask for? A two-night minimum is required, so that you have plenty of time to celebrate the coming of the new year.

There is usually lots of parties going on in Eureka Springs, with the majority of them being walkable from our inn. There are usually parties at the Pied Piper, Chelsea’s, Eureka Live, Rowdy Beaver and I can’t imagine our newest venue, the Voulez-Vous Lounge, won’t be having something outrageous – they’re great fun! And there’s always a great 60-70s type party usually at the convention center, behind the Inn of the Ozarks. If you want something quieter, no problem, most restaurants will all be open for a nice dinner out.

So come have fun and let your worries go – toast in the New Year in Eureka Springs, AR!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Merry Christmas – Made in America! (In Two Minutes or Less!)

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

Well, it’s only a couple weeks away from Christmas.

No doubt, that perfect gift for that hard-to-buy-for relative, friend or co-worker still escapes you.

There has been a big push this year across America to buy “Made in the USA,” or possibly gift services that are performed locally like car repair, beauty care, massages, etc.

What could be more American than a getaway in the heart of the nation in Eureka Springs, Arkansas this coming year?

Why not consider giving the gift of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation:

A gift certificate for a stay at the 1884 Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast!

You can purchase your gift certificate on our website online with a credit card, give us some custom instructions to include on the certificate, and we’ll snail mail or email your purchase to you or directly to the recipient. Or call us at the inn and we’ll take your order over the phone.

You can purchase a Bridgeford House gift certificate in any amount or purchase a stay in a particular room. You already know we’ll treat your special someone right at the inn, so it won’t be like the “lovely” sweater you got last year from Aunt Mabel.

It doesn’t get any easier or more thoughtful than that.

Here’s hoping you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Recipe – Cinnamon Roll Cake

Sunday, November 20th, 2011

From time to time, we like to share some recipes with you – these are all actual recipes of items we serve our guests! This one we discovered online just recently and it has been a big hit with our guests. It’s pretty simple; try it at home this winter – go head, indulge!

Cinnamon Roll Cake

Cake:
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp.salt
1 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 c. milk
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter, melted

Topping:
1 c. butter, softened
1 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1 Tbsp. cinnamon

Mix everything together except for the butter. Slowly stir in the melted butter and pour into a greased 9×13 pan. For the topping, mix all the ingredients together until well combined. Drop evenly over the batter and swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 for 28-32 minutes.

Glaze:
2 c. powdered sugar
5 Tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

While warm drizzle the glaze over the cake.

Here’s wishing you a relaxing winter season – we all could use it!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Upcoming Car Shows

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Well, I write this to the sights and sounds of all the great VW bugs and buses that have been in town all this past weekend. We had a blast watching them from our front porch with some great guests, who collected lots of candy and Mardi Gras beads! It made us start looking forward to the next car show, which is one of my favorites, the Antique Auto Festival – in its 41st year! Coming September 9 & 10th, it’s sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, and event details include hundreds of vintage classics competing for prizes and trophies. Includes a car show with  the parade, which of course – goes right by our front porch! The 1922 Bank Robbery re-enactment follows directly after the antique car parade; re-creating the first time an automobile was used as a getaway vehicle in a bank robbery. That is always loads of fun and no bystanders have ever been shot yet {grin}.

From Bridgeford House B& B Front PorchThe first weekend in October has the Carroll County Cruisers Open Car Show. And by far one of the most exciting is the Annual Corvette weekend, October 6-9, their 21st time in Eureka! Gorgeous ‘vettes will be everywhere, both new and restored. This show is so big they used to run the parade only at night time. Now you just get to see them all over town.

October 20-23 will see all the Mini-Coopers arriving. I love the minis – just the right size for Sophie to drive! Very colorful and of course, easy to drive around Eureka’s skinny and windy streets. Fall color should be hitting just right about that time.

So come enjoy the cars without the car maintenance bills! There’s always something going on in Eureka Springs, AR!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

The Bugs are Coming!

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

No, not that kind…VW bugs! And all other manner of Volkswagen vehicles – back again for their annual festival, for the 19th year! August 26, 27th and 28th, 2011 – you can sit right on our front porch and watch these colorful automobiles tootle by during their Saturday afternoon parade, as many as 300 of them right in front of you. Some of them are pretty outrageous (there is usually one that’s all dressed up like a frog).  It’s one of the biggest car parades that Eureka has and also one of the most colorful!

There’s a Saturday show and swap meet, a Sunday Countryside Tourcade (and you know what our countryside looks like!) and a BBQ dinner, for those folks that register to be in the show. But for you wanna-bes, just come enjoy the bugs and buses for yourself, while shopping and dining and people-watching – it’s a great weekend to just get outside!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!

Bridgeford House B&B Geocache Poker Run

Sunday, August 14th, 2011

Here at our inn we love to have a good time and we love for our guests to have a great time! If you’ve attended any of our Murder Mystery weekends, you know we love a good clue hunt. So we decided to extend some treasure hunting for other parts of the year, too, in our all-new Geocache Poker Run weekends! The first one is scheduled for September 23rd & 24th, 2011. It’s just for fun, no extra cost to guests, you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to – but why the heck not?

Not sure what Geocaching is? Geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices. We did lots of geocaches around town a couple weeks ago when two of our grandsons were visiting. They had a blast! Here in Eureka Springs, we’ll add on a little bit of extra fun – the treasure you are hunting for is a winning poker hand! For guests that come and stay with us for Friday and Saturday night of that weekend, we will hide 7 poker caches around town (with a small clue for each and its GPS coordinates) – you go find them! For each cache found, each room will take one sealed envelope with a poker card inside. Collect 7 sealed envelopes per room and at breakfast Sunday morning, each room will open their envelopes and make the best poker hand with the cards that they have. The winner wins a free night at the Bridgeford House B&B on a future stay!

We hope to do these weekends several times a year, so watch our website and follow us on Facebook and Twitter and join us for some cheap fun!

Warmest regards,

Jeff and Nadara (Sam) Feldman – and Sophie, too!
