A Sad Goodbye

It was finally time for us to say goodbye to our longtime assistant innkeeper and best friend, our Sheltie, Chelsea. Many of you have spent time with her on your visits here and she loved the guests. Most of you know she was getting quite elderly and feeble and we finally felt we were being selfish with our needs rather than hers; so on August 14th, she passed away.

New Murder Mystery!

The French Flying Machine Murder - November 9th & 10th, 2007

Hosted by The 1884 Bridgeford House Bed and Breakfast and The 1881 Crescent Cottage Inn

For those of you who have attended our fabulously funny Conrail Affair Murder Mystery weekend, it's time for a return visit - we have a new mystery! Entitled The French Flying Machine Murder, we explore the beginnings of aviation - all the gossip, all the spying, all the jealousies, all the backstabbing!

The year is 1912. The incredibly rich, brash and adventurous Viscount Earnest d'Archdeacon of France, has flown to the scenic mountain burg of Eureka Springs, United States of America, to visit his good friend and fellow aviator, Curtis Glenn.

The Viscount has invited the crème de la crème of aviation society across the globe to witness the presentation of and to seek investors for his revolutionary aircraft engine design, aviation fuel, fuselage material, and instrument design. Some of the invitees see the Viscount's designs as great innovation and progress. Others see the Viscount's plans as a threat to US aviation superiority. And who invited that shadowy government type?

All gather at the plush Glenn mansion for a pre-presentation cocktail party. Suddenly, the Viscount's plans stall. Who clips the Viscount's wings and why? There's something on the wing! Is it a… body?

Package Includes (for 2 people):

*Two night stay (Friday and Saturday)

(price dependent on room)

*Cocktail party/reception Friday evening to kick-off the mystery

*Full breakfast each morning

Turpentine Creek - For Those That Love Cats!

(But we're not talking about those little fuzzy ones that sit on your lap...)

 www.turpentinecreek.org

Hopefully many of you have visited Eureka Springs' large cat refuge, just 7 miles south of town on Hwy 23. We are especially connected with the refuge because our youngest, Jessica, is beginning her second 6-month internship there. It is certainly wonderful to have at least one of our children close by, even if she is 26 years old and still doesn't have a real job!

Turpentine Creek began in 1992 and has over 120 cats today, which include lions, tigers, servals and cougars, plus some additional rescue animals, including several bears. Their mission is to make them as comfortable and happy as possible and they have undertaken the building of habitats for them, as time and money permits. They have completed something like 26 habitats for these large cats, who in some cases have never felt grass under their feet in their entire life.

Please check them out on your next visit to Eureka Springs. The refuge is on 450 of some of the most beautiful acreage around.

They are open every day, except Christmas Day, and an all-day pass is $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for Veterans, Senior Citizens and Children (ages 3-12), with children under three admitted free. All admissions go toward the operation of the refuge and you can adopt your own cat as well!

Recipe of the Season

Banana Crumble

4 bananas

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats or granola (granola is better)

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/8 tsp. salt

4 TB butter, softened

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Slice bananas and evenly distribute among 4 ramekins or casserole dish, lightly sprayed with Pam.

Place all dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl; add the butter and work the mixture with your hands until it is crumbly. Sprinkle the mixture over the bananas, crumbling further with your fingers, enough to cover. Bake until the crumble gets firm and golden in color, about 10-12 minutes; serve warm.
