Turpentine Creek -
For Those That Love Cats!
(But we're not talking about those little fuzzy ones that sit on your lap...) Hopefully many of you have visited Eureka Springs' large cat refuge, just 7 miles south of town on Hwy 23. We are especially connected with the refuge because our youngest, Jessica, is beginning her second 6-month internship there. It is certainly wonderful to have at least one of our children close by, even if she is 26 years old and still doesn't have a real job! Turpentine Creek began in 1992 and has over 120 cats today, which include lions, tigers, servals and cougars, plus some additional rescue animals, including several bears. Their mission is to make them as comfortable and happy as possible and they have undertaken the building of habitats for them, as time and money permits. They have completed something like 26 habitats for these large cats, who in some cases have never felt grass under their feet in their entire life. Please check them out on your next visit to Eureka Springs. The refuge is on 450 of some of the most beautiful acreage around. They are open every day, except Christmas Day, and an all-day pass is $15.00 for adults, $10.00 for Veterans, Senior Citizens and Children (ages 3-12), with children under three admitted free. All admissions go toward the operation of the refuge and you can adopt your own cat as well!
